Dear Norene, Jeff, Jan, Mary, David, MaryMargaret, Robert, Molly, Paula, Bill, Rebecca, C, Denise, Janet, Lisa, Meg and John, Beverly, Stephanie, Michael, Danielle, Microsoft, and John,

Thank you so much for helping to improve STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) literacy in Seattle and Kenya. Your generous contributions will help students at Chief Sealth International High School and the St. John’s Secondary School in the Taita-Taveta District of Kenya acquire essential scientific materials for their joint studies on water issues. David is a student at St. John’s and wanted to thank you personally for your kindness:

I am writing to thank you for your generosity and help in forming a Seavuria project here in Taita. Also, thank you for your efforts to partner our schools in Seattle and Kenya as we are educated on treating water. I have personally gained a lot. Right now I have a positive attitude towards science subjects and I wish to learn more and more. God bless you.

Students like David from both schools are collaborating in the study of a unit entitled, “who has the right to clean water?” Students learn from each other how water issues impact entire communities and firsthand stories from local Kenyans share the realities of the devastating effects of lack of infrastructure, poor sanitation, and exposure to disease. Teachers on both continents have collaborated to design water lessons that provide students with the underpinnings of scientific knowledge to approach this important issue. Students in both regions also conduct similar laboratory investigations and share data.

Thank you all for providing these students with such a valuable opportunity to learn and develop connections across the globe.
